The well-secured, wide path through Rügen’s wonderful, species-rich beech forest right by the sea is much more than just a nice alternative to a walk and a common excursion destination on Rügen. Large and small visitors can experience the forest habitat up close all year round – on the various levels of the path as well as at adventure stations and accompanying exhibitions.

At least 4 and a maximum of 17 meters above the ground, visitors to the Rügen tree top path get completely new insights into the local flora and fauna and discover at eye level with the mighty giant trees how impressively nature changes over the course of a year. At various stations, curious people can learn more about the forest and its inhabitants in a fun and entertaining way. Hands-on stations show in a playful way which invisible (but huge!) Powers are used. Who can pump the water with the special pump as high as a tree? And who can see as sharply as a sea eagle? Specially adjusted binoculars help with the comparison and provide some surprises.

In the truest sense of the word, the highlight of Rügen’s treetop path is the eagle’s nest, a 40-meter-high tower made of wood, which was modeled on a real eagle’s nest. The Rügen tree top path winds up here in 10 rounds to the 29-meter-wide viewing platform. With a bit of luck, from 82 meters above sea level you will not only discover some of the rare sea eagles, but also enjoy a unique view of large parts of the island. The construction shows that the treetop path is an extraordinary adventure for the whole family. The 1.80 to 2.50 meter wide ramp made of untreated larch and Douglas fir has a maximum gradient of 6% and can therefore be easily accessed by wheelchairs, walkers and strollers. In the checkout area it is possible to rent wheelchairs and walkers. The paths of the treetop path, which are secured with railings and nets, are largely covered and are cleared of wet leaves, snow and ice when necessary – after all, safety for young and old comes first. Nevertheless, children under the age of 12 may only enter the area if accompanied by an adult.

The Rügen tree-top path is an exciting experience, especially for young visitors who take part in the Comic-Rally tree top path. The idea behind it is simply explained: A total of 15 comic boards distributed on the Rügen tree top path convey topics of biodiversity in a way that is appropriate for children and young people – making learning fun! The comic booklet available at the cash register or in the information shop complements the boards, asks questions of understanding and knowledge and provides additional information. When the rally has ended (i.e. the treetop path has been walked completely), the answers to be entered in the booklet can be checked in the information shop.

But not only the comic rally invites you to marvel and take a closer look. On the public tour, nature guides explain the peculiarities of the forest, which is home to large animals such as the sea eagle as well as to small woodpeckers, tree runners and numerous insects. Of course, it is also possible to take part in an individual tour, which is carried out, for example, at unusual times (e.g. in the late evening or early in the morning) or with special content after individual consultation.

A holiday apartment near the Rügen tree top path is the ideal starting point for such a special tour – and for many other tours through the island’s jungle-like forests, to historic sites, fashionable seaside resorts and cozy little villages where everyday life is far away, nature and Relaxation but are the closer.

An exciting addition to the guided tours is provided by various exhibitions in the Rügen Nature Heritage Center, which also includes the tree top path. In the permanent exhibition, big and small explorers can experience and understand nature at 17 different stations – often interactively. If you fancy a visit to local animal species, have always wanted to build your own version of wilderness or would like to learn how to fire sparks with a flint, this is the place for you.

In addition, there are alternating exhibitions every six months, which invite people to think and think in an interactive and realistic way. The art gallery shows contemporary works by regional artists in exhibitions that change every two months and which mostly create an exciting connection to the Rügen landscape and nature.
